Also, this may not be obvious to the listener, but they record the winning call and play it back after the song/commercial.

Nearly 100% of caller interactions are pre-recorded and played back. The exception is talk/sports radio, but they generally have a 7 second delay so they can dump you if you drop an F bomb or something.
