The no forced DRM was decided a while before that.

I don't know that it ever occurred to them. If it did, they decided against it once the leaks about XBO having it came out and they saw the response.
I think the price was the big undecided thing. They saw the XBO price point and realized they could ditch the camera and throw under it by $100. So that's what they did.
