You would not have done security to immigrate, but you definitely would have done security if you stayed in the airport and transferred.

I have done that so many times, there is no question.
But they don't dump you out into general security. Neither did Hong Kong. You use special transfer areas that have their own usually pretty quick (at least at Tokyo and HK)security.
