Obama's biggest issue in 2007/08 wasn't that he wasn't a rock star in his own right; it was that he jumped the line

If he did what was expected and sit on the sidelines in 2008, he's now the Hillary of 2016....a rock star politically now with the tenure.
With him and her, it was never of question of if they'd win the nomination, it was when they'd win the nomination.
