ST Medical Folks: How serious is cranial stenosis? Common or big deal?

Friend of mine's child:
Michael has to have surgery. He has cranial stenosis, which means his skull has already fused together. Dr wants him to be at least 3 mo old before they do it.
Responses:
around 1 in 1000 babies have it, so pretty common.

if it's not fixed, very serious. it means the skull is deformed and the brain cannot grow -- nm

my nephew had it. It looks really bad and painful after the surgery but he is 2 or so now and fine and dandy -- nm
