usage would demand metal, course threads with grease inside of finely machined threads.
but with robotic machining most lenses are pretty good.
keep in mind the more extreme zoom the more compromises in lens quality. most top level pro glass is only 2x zoom IE' 35-70 80-200 17-35 A 35-200 is a lot to ask for. and that's why the f/stop varies by 2 stops
oh yeah that's another difference, a pro lens tends to be f/x at both ends of the zoom (can slip a quarter stop but that's not bad)
