If you really want to measure a player's worth, the best way to do it is propose trades. Example...

would I trade Yadier Molina right now for any other player straight up?
In the entire league...and only because he's 7 years younger...I might move him for Posey.
Otherwise, there's not a player in MLB that I would move Yadi for.
THAT'S value...regardless of what WAR says.
