I get the part about different flavors and branching out, but I still do not understand the use of pouches for soups.

I've talked with friends/family/coworkers about them* - no one understands them. can't easily use them at work vs. the microwavable cups/small bowls; a less-green container (cans recycle); and they are all 2 or more servings per bag (same as many soups, but there's nothing special there).
some people bought them when they first came out and were deeply discounted or they nabbed free samples, but no one I've asked has liked the contents enough to repurchase and deal with the bags.
they're said to be aiming at younger customers, but that's still a "huh?" to me.
*mememe: I haven't tried any, although some of the flavors are appealing, because they all contain too much salt for me.
