My parents didn't drink, therefore we weren't allowed to drink.

We were given beer at home from an early age - like French kids get wine. As a teen I'd sometimes have a glass of sherry or port with my Mom.

i was allowed my own (teeny tiny) bit if wine from a pretty early age on the occasions we drank it with dinner (not that often)
