Slight Rant: Sometimes I think as a manager I am shocked at how selfish and stupid my staff can be.

I usually buy lunch every single friday. We have been doing that for about 7 months. (company card) and generally it has been in reward for hard work and good metrics.

For the last 2 weeks they just seemed to have slacked some and we have had a few negative surveys in a row so today - I didnt buy lunch.

My people on the team who are older (35+) understood and respected the decision and love the fact they nark out their coworkers.

The 25-34 yos were like. Wow really we arent getting food. Its not like it comes out of his pocket. Maybe we should go get manager XYZ to buy for us today instead.

It turned into an entitlement pretty fast...kind of shocked. I defend them regularly and we are doing good but we should be great this year and this was just another thing in a line of irritation.

Got one guy who likes to quote labor law sometimes...and I have to point out hes on salary and the job description covers what I am asking. Or they think some task is beneath them when its something I ask ALL of them to share equally.

I feel a back in my day vibe coming on...I was glad to have a nice stable job with great benefits and boss that respected me. These are the last things I would do to keep that respect.

I dont know if its some generational degeneration
