In response to "Is Texas socially conservative?" by Mel Profit

They elected a Tea Party Senator (statewide) over a the well known (conservative) LT Governor in the GOP Primary.

My Texas experience was a dichotomy. When I moved to Texas, Ann Richards was Governor. My family moved from NY to the Austin area. Austin is a little blue hippie dot in the middle of TX. Our burb county was conservative, but didn't seem overdone.. Then I went to A&M which was VERY conservative. Then back to Austin area where mini-Berkley breaks out in the city but the burb seemed to be getting more conservative.

I can't speak to Dallas, Houston, SA. But I am getting the sense that the state is socially conservative overall today. There's been a shift since the days of Ann I guess.
