for some reason they decided it was open season on us, so rather than go through the usual escalation of skirmishes, go for it now

though in practice its still a slow escalation...ie: for me, I'm gathering a homeland defense of a major major upgrade and guarding over 7m units of everything built up. and its taking days and days for the warehouses to be upgraded...
so I'll be out of it for about 2 weeks.
