my roommate's dad is Amish, and was shunned by the community for apostacy (he wrecked a car during his rumspringa, and got a job and met my roommate's mom, and never went back). One thanksgiving they went to visit his family, and his dad had to sit at a table separated from the rest of the family by half an inch of space, so they wouldn't technically be including him in their dinner.
