Are any of the ST fitness buffs around?

A few questions...
Firstly, I've noticed that after 3 months at the gym, things are slowly starting to change re: muscles. My weight hasn't changed much, but whereas I could barely do one (girly) push-up when I started, now I can do 8 or 9 before needing to rest. Baby steps, but still moving in the right direction. My abs, however, show no change at all. The Pilates instructor told me tonight that given the fact I was recently pregnant and had a c section, I can expect that it's going to take up to 5x as long for my abs to get where I want them to. *fantastic* but do you find that in general it takes more work for your abs than anywhere else, or is it just me?
Also, I've been trying to limit my intake of artificial sweeteners. Cut back a bit on diet coke. Where I'd normally add a few packets of Splenda, though, I am now adding honey. (Tea, unsweetened yogurt, etc) Do you think that's an equally unhealthy choice?
