Yes, there was considerable pressure from the Norwegian government towards Dubai.

Western feminism and Dubai's sharia (is it?) doesn't match.
Obviously, both co-workers involved in the alleged crime (victim & perpetrator) were quite drunk - which is an offence against the law down there.
The Norwegian woman was convicted on three counts by a Dubai court: alcoholic consumption, sex outside of marriage and false rape allegations. The Sudanese, married with three children, male co-worker was convicted on the first two same counts, and cleared of the rape charges.
As Dubai wiped Marte Dalselv's slate clean, they wiped his clean also.
Both were fired from their employer - signed by the CEO, who happens to be Janet Jackson's spouse. Reason given: unacceptable behaviour, getting in trouble with the police etc. Allegedly, the employer did try very hard, in the beginning, to get their two employees out of trouble with the law (after they had been detained, following the Norwegian employee Marte Dalselv's rape complaint filed with the police).
