But that might not work with lead-acid, I'm not sure. Obviously self-charge is the wrong word, it's just that a certain chemical reaction has a quirk where a big drain can cause it to drop below the "real" charge level temporarily, and leaving it with no load for a bit can cause things to settle down and recover to the true level.
