If its a thin area, you probably just want to buy smaller tiles.

We were advised not to buy bigger and cut, because you wind up with a lot more wasted (broken) tile. They are easy to break, and why spend money on tiles you can't wind up using?
Responses:
Makes sense. It's 14 inches high mostly. So smaller tiles may make more sense. -- nm
