the later iterations are pale comparisons on which I blame sub standard writing.

There's one shot in X1 that is one of the best ones done in any X-Movie. It's after he's won the last match in the cage and he sits there smoking a cigar. It's lifted right out of the books. There's been nothing like that, for instance, in any of the stand-alone movies. This is a minor quibble but it still irks me.

Also, swearing doesn't make Logan gruff.
