My understanding was that all the data feeding back from ios devices would lead to quality improvement.s

Like, Google had all this data from actual usage that Apple didn't have, but as people used Apple Maps, they would gain this wealth of knowledge
I haven't used Apple Maps in a long time, so no idea if that's true.
They also bought HopStop to get transit data presumably
