The biggest issue I have with my pets is what to do when you want to go out of town. That you have an easy going dog that people love to watch makes that less troublesome so I get the worry about the new dog possibly being a bit much for your friends to take care of.
Pretty sweet that you seem to have found a home for the pit already. It would have sucked to have to bring him to shelter knowing what the likely outcome would be.
Best of luck with your new dog and I'm sure he'll adjust well and be an awesome new member of your family.
