Oh, it's bad news, and will probably cost Iwata his job. Which sucks because I love how honest he is.

They certainly screwed up in their hardware choice for this generation. I'd say they had 5 or 6 ways to go with the console, and they chose the only way which would fail.
Still, they have a boatload of cash from the Wii/DS days, and are making money again because of the exchange rate. That should help them float along.
