the bristol sessions in the 20's are sort of the big bang of recorded country for vinyl. generally, country built from there was popular 0n 78's through the depression and got even more widespread through the war years. bluegrass doesn't really emerge as a style until the mid forties, when bill monroe puts it together with earl scruggs pioneering the popularity of the three finger style of banjo picking.
