I just realised that I didn't recount something that happened a couple of weeks ago ...

I had just skipped out from the office to go to the bank and on the way back some guy tried to go in a different bank but the door was locked. He swore *really* loudly for a few seconds and then started walking in the same direction as me (but ahead of me).

There's a Magnum ice cream store (who knew?) just ahead of there that always has a line out the door. As he got there an older woman (not in line) happened to be in his path. He stopped for a moment and seemed to consider something and then elbowed her down to the ground really hard. Gordie Howe would have had trouble matching it.

The guy started to walk away and I thought about stopping to help the woman but there was a big crowd and they were already helping, so I figured it would be better if I could do something about the jerk who did it. This guy was obviously unbalanced and was pretty hefty, so I thought that doing something myself could lead to getting my ear bitten off or something. I thought that the best thing would be to find a cop and let them know that he just assaulted an old woman.

I followed him as he crossed both ways at the nearby intersection and as he went toward the subway. Not one cop visible! He went into the subway and I had to give up hope of his being apprehended.

I felt pretty crappy that I couldn't do more than that and that he got away with it. I also felt really bad that the people around the woman saw me walking away, not knowing what I was doing and assuming that I just didn't want to get involved. I'm still bothered by the incident.
