I think that was the whole point. A child who has parents that read to them is more likely to succeed than 1 that doesn't.

Because it's shared time with their parent. It's teaching them a love of reading and books...which will carry with them until they're grown up.

It's WAY more than just teaching the mechanics of reading and comprehension (but those skills come into play too.)

It's the whole package that comes with spending time and reading books to your kids.
