Depends on the size of the file and where you're downloading from.

When downloading torrents, I sometimes pause one to give bandwidth to the others. It's more obvious on a Torrent interface than in a browser. There are a number of possible bottlenecks, from your modem and router to the server you're downloading from and even your own PC and your network card.
