also the kind of film effects translation of gray scale, IE: orthopan or panchromatic

ortho pan was sensitive to blue light only and so gals with bright red lipstick had black lips.
panchromatic was what we normally thought of as B&W was designed to be more senistive to a wider range of the chroma scale.
you can buy photoshop actions to get your images to render as if shot with tri-x or plus x or whatever your favorite film was
