I pay less in commuting costs ($5 per month) but more for housing. not ideal, but...

my sister just paid $510k for an 100 SF house. I could never make it in a high-rent city. a guy I was dating once tried to get me to move to boston and I looked at rents and dumped him immediately. (not really but it sounds good.)
