The effect of the electric light on urban populations was...electrifying and frankly I don't think they saw it coming ala TV and telephone concerned..

keep in mind, before 'standard oil' you never really knew what you had in your fuel can for your gas/oil lights and it was said that in the years following the civil war more people died from oil lamp fires than killed in car crashes in the 1970's (an article compared decades) about 50,000 a year
