My survival skills have certainly sharpened since I began walking. California 'burbs are not pedestrian friendly.

Most drivers observe the "Pedestrians as Royal Game" rule but I've had one really close call. I think that one scared the driver more than it did me...they pulled over half way up the block and just sat there.
