at least for me.
I've moved to gmail for some things, because of people like y'all; and for it's social apps (not that I use them much, but you never know); but I still keep some aol.
one account has almost my entire online shopping history associated with it; and, also, in the unlikely event that some long lost friends who knew that account ever think to find me, that'd be a first step.
another has my entire online bill paying history associated with it.
keeping them makes finding things very easy.
also, my AOL accounts get less spam, even with all that history, including before spam was a big thing and security wasn't so strong, than any other accounts I have (except one oddly-named gmail account I use as a placeholder).
