ok, so, possibly awkward email / situation involving 1 of my college professors? ,,,details inside ...

i'm in a graduate program, so i understand that professors tend to take a bit of a different approach to their interactions with grad students. however, i'm not sure what to make of this ...
in a nutshell, 1 of the professor's has a spouse that has been in ill health for the better part of this year. He was recently short-term hospitalized, and while there decided to try to get up and walk on his own. in the process, he broke his leg. they're preparing to release him from the hospital this week, and the professor has sent out an email to folks in the program asking for some assistance at their house moving some things around and preparing the "study" into a temporary bedroom situation for her husband.
i'm not sure how I feel about this. is her request appropriate to be asking for such assistance from her grad students? it's not that i object to helping someone out in a situation like this .. it's just ... i don't know. it just seems a little strange to me.
am I just overreacting?
