It's not just economies of scale, it's price discrimination + his perspectives from India.

Here, we're willing to pay $1 for a cold refreshing drink right we can enjoy right now, but only $5 for a 12-pack that we would have at home. So companies charge what we are willing to pay.
In India, that is crazy. Who would pay twice as much for the essentially same thing just because they could have it right now? From their perspective, our priorities are messed up.
