In response to "One of the main objections was by the White Sox. A move to a day game wouldn't have given them much time to prepare." by Inigo

I think that still put them closer than the O's. They were in Cleveland.

Everyone wants to throw blame at the O's and White Sox. The MLB schedule makers are who deserve the blame. There are few teams where games the same day/time would be a factor. But still, MLB scheduled most teams off for tonight. One of the teams they do have playing is a team who has the stadium issue that makes it a bad conflict, is coming home off a 9-game road trip, was in the playoffs last year, and who has a local football team that was a dropped pass away from the Super Bowl the previous season and who had been to at least the second round of the playoffs for 4 straight seasons. MLB also gave that team 2 of their late season off days within 4 days of each other, one of them in the middle of a homestand and the other on a short travel day.
