Here's how I went from Vonage to GV

1. Make sure you have an unlocked or T-Mobile phone. I had one around for travel but YMMV. If you have an old ATT phone not on contract, they'll unlock it for free when you call them.

2. Buy a T-Mobile prepaid SIM and get a couple of minutes worth of credit (GV requires a phone call to confirm you own the number)

3. Port the number from Vonage to T-Mobile. This takes 48 hours or so.

4. Once the number is working on T-Mobile, you then port the number to Google Voice. Again, a 48 hour wait is necessary where you'll answer the landline on the prepaid cell (including the GV call).
