That's only $4M more than McAlister earned last year.

Or was set to earn this year, I'm not sure. It's 1 1/2 times the franchise amount, and about $3M more than he would have gotten if they'd franchised him again this year. Had they done it a third year, if that's possible, it would have cost within $1M of what he will make. And the final year, they save almost $2M. That is if they all go by the 120% figure that second franchise years cost.
Asomugha practically negates any WR he covers. That's worth a lot, and very few CBs can do that.
