if he was worried about authorization he could have quietly pulled everyone together, made the case, then had the vote which would have been the first public acknowledgement of what was going to happen - been assured of the vote, otherwise you don't have it and then let fly with the missiles.

But by making this all so public it's a mess politically (domestically and internationally) and militarily.

LBJ or Bill Clinton wouldn't have handle it this badly...and I wonder what Hillary would have done. I suspect she'd be well on her way to getting the new Ford Class Carrier named after her.
