there's a new show on History or Discovery (or NatGeo) about backyard drillers in the US.

I've seen a couple of episodes and in one there was a church that had an exploratory well drilled and they hit water, but it was artisan quality so they are looking to bottle it and make a couple hundred thousand a year on it.
It's incredible how much some of these rednecks are making from oil on their properties (and some of them still bury jars of cash to keep it out of the banks).
