It's happens to everyone when they first start out. They didn't give you a map when you started? It'll be empty at first but as you walk around it'll fill in.
If you didn't get one you can make one, eventually.

I build really big towers with torches all around and on top. Use two dirt blocks and build straight up as high as you think is necessary to see it from a distance. Light up the top of one side with torches and then just dig down on the other side to get down.
Eventually you'll build a big house or castle and you'll be able to see it from far away.

        Also, obsidian, and baked cobble show up. So does lots of sand, or gravel, but those are naturally occuring land. In the xbox updat there are now - Truman Sep 7, 23:06 1
