Last night, Kelly and I watched the actor-commentary on Tropic Thunder. Downey is remarkable in going back and forth in his roles.

and then we watched an outtake of the "Dude playing a dude, pretending to be another dude" scene. How him and Stiller just went back and forth basically ad-libbing all but the key points of the scene for ten minutes.
Not always great, but it was pretty interesting to see the genesis of a scene like that.
