Sooner than anyone imagine, the next gen format war sabotaged both formats and turned consumers towards an alternative.

People would whisper that Microsoft's support of HD DVD was simply a ploy to prolong the format war and turn viewers to online content. Maybe it wasn't such a bad strategy.
