I'm surprised that 14 hrs of movie watching wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I got that "Oh, when is this going to be over!?!?!" feeling halfway through the last movie, I was surprised.
Anyhoo -
1) Slumdog Millionaire - still an A+. Loved everything about it. This seemed to be the audience favorite.
2) Frost/Nixon - A-. I had absolutely no interest in seeing this one, so I was pleasantly surprised. Great performances, Langella was superb. Can't think of one weak link in the whole movie, and I found it suspenseful, which I did not expect.
3) Milk - B+. Very good movie, Penn was amazing (I might put him over Rourke for best actor) and I really liked Franco. I loved the last 45 minutes and only liked the first hour and a quarter. Can't really figure out why Brolin was nominated.
4) Ben Button - B+. Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would, and I never once looked at my watch, which I didn't expect. I thought it would drag, but it didn't at all. Blanchett and Pitt had *amazing* chemistry imo. CB: "Sleep with me." BP: "Absolutely!" got a big laugh out of the audience. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. I heard some people say it was too Forrest Gump-y, but that didn't bother me at all since I love FG. It did bother me a lot that Ben didn't die a grown man with a baby face.
5) The Reader: B-. I originally gave this a B+ immediately after viewing but upon reflection I'm dropping it a bit. Good movie, Winslet and the kid were great - I can see why Winslet was nominated - but it just wasn't an Oscar-caliber movie imo. Performances, yes. Movie, no. (Random: it bugged me to no end that I couldn't identify the man who played the kid's law professor - so glad it took me til the end credits to realize it was the guy who played Hiter in Downfall.) Oh, and holy nudity! - I think Winslet was naked in this more than she wasn't.
