Part of the cultural issue is the love of guns. I do think the media's fascination with this breeds more of it, but gun control would help.

Changing culture takes a long time, part of how you change it is limiting access to guns. The strength of the gun lobby is insane. In the wake of New Town where 90% of the population agreed with at least some additional gun control, we couldn't get anything passed. That's crazy.
