The fight has been going for a few years. Sportsfishing and hunting organizations went NUTS. People saw it as an ideological attack on hunting and fishing. As a result, it has proved IMPOSSIBLE for the EPA to impose any sort of regulation on lead tackle and sinkers.
Some states have imposed regulations, and the sportsmens associations are fighting them.
The mere scent of federal control over things related to guns is enough to push the berzerk button.
