Also, saying "maybe he can't prove he's a US citizen" doesn't mean one doubts his citizenship.

Part of my job involves auditing. There a stark difference between believing someone and that person having documentation to prove their assertion (even if you believe the assertion).
The Obama birthers argued that he was not born in Kenya. They did not argue that he couldn't prove he was born in the US, they argued that the was in fact, NOT born in the US.
I don't see that about Cruz in the linked B2 article. I see someone saying "yeah, I believe him...but maybe he hasn't renounced citizenship because he doesn't have the documentation to prove what I believe"
And is he simultaneously poking the birthers? Sure. I shed no tears over that.
