So as you may or may not remember, a few months ago, my wife changed jobs

because of a situation with the partnership that could be charitably called "dysfunctional" and because of an insulting attitude towards my wife's contributions. Fast forward to today. The main partner was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour which has progressed very rapidly, even more than was indicated as a possibility (Fuck Cancer). It's a matter of hours at this point.
While he was a part of the problem with the firm's management, he wasn't the real problem and was overall a good man (I repeat, Fuck Cancer). However, realpolitik has set in at the firm, and by the rule of the architects' association, firms have to be majority owned by licensed architects ... something which most of the remaining partners aren't. The rest of the partners held an emergency meeting today that didn't involve [Partner that was the problem] in which they asked the partner friendliest to my wife whether she'd be willing to come back on as a partner if [Problem partner] was not there, since, you know, she's a licensed architect and would fulfill their requirements. This, after a few months ago saying that they just didn't see how she could become a major partner in the firm for a long time, and she'd have to get a lot more experience, yada yada yada. Her response back was, naturally (paraphrasing): "Wfay". "Huh? There's no f in way." "Exactly."
So, tragedy on one hand, and a colossal irony on the other.
