So... here we go.
We have a consultant group that I can't stand, but they've wined and dined there way into the top parts of the company, so I'm stuck with them.
A few months ago, I was asked to provide a solution to help with a microphone issue during board meetings.. big deals, everybody acts like it's the end of the world when these things go on. It's ridiculous and there's an enormous amount of petty behavior and expense related to these meetings... Knowing it's like that, I turn to our consultant who is in good with these people. They propose a stupid-ass solution, but I pass it up the ladder and the powers that be say ok. When the solution is in, everybody hates it, so it gets pulled.
I get the blame. I don't know this at the time, but my name got dragged around and I was accused of having terrible judgement. This mic thing was temporary and they decided they needed a permanent solution... so they reach out to the consulting company and exclude me.
My boss told me all of this and my jaw just hung open. What. the. fuck. This was after he gave me some long, meandering speech about how I need better judgement when dealing with the CEO and those in that circle. I was pissed. He asked that I please don't do anything to retaliate and that he will see what he can do, but he said "The damage has been done."
In short: fuck this place.
Also... since you have read this far. I find out that they want to move people off of contracts (headcount) and on to master service agreements (not headcount!). But they're asking that I take the guy that runs our video conferencing network and shoehorn him in to the role of AV tech, along with the pay... which represents a pay cut of about $45k. I'm going to lose this guy because these idiots can't tell the difference and don't listen to a word I say.
Also.. fuck this place.
