I believe the Leo character was simply espousing what she believed was her own religion -- settled upon based on too little study. She's not a-typical these days, simply willing to enact what she believes, which is also not so a-typical: see Middle east religious wars.
What I'm still struggling with is why did Loki visit the Priest? What drew him to that door?
