In response to "on a nessesary increse of the debt ceiling? -- nm" by DaneDukeNuuk

The Tea Party voters in 2010 were convinced to choose radical Republican candidates who, among other things, promised to "repeal Obamacare."

That is, of course a ridiculous promise for many reasons, including the reasons you and Dano list. Many of these Tea Party Republicans managed to beat more traditional "moderate" Republicans in primary elections. It's true, Obamacare is unpopular, or was at the time. Now that these Tea Party Republicans are in office and their presence threaten to unseat other moderate Republicans who survived the 2010 midterm elections. So, these moderate Republicans are, for now, going along with the Tea Party's efforts to repeal Obamacare, lest they lose their jobs.

Icreasing the debt ceiling, passing a budget and Obamacare are all separate issues that the Congress usually deals with separately. For reasons that are unclear to me, the Tea Party Republicans have chosen to tie them all together. They won't pass a budget or increase the debt ceiling, things that need to happen in order for the government to function, without repealing Obamacare, or pushing back the effective dates or what have you.
