In response to "Yeah, I wasn't happy with the lighting, too bad it wasn't an overcast day." by Cuzzin Todd

overcast days are the worst...

that's when you get annie oakley eyes

the overcast is an overhead down light, you get your highlights on the eyebrow ridge, the nose and cheek bones.

what doesn't get light are the eyes which get shaded as effectively as a cave.

so you either use a fill flash for like a wedding or subtractive lighting (black 'reflectors') or find some overhang like a tree and place the subject in the penumbra

but the easiest thing to do without a lot of equipment is get out in twilight, that magic hour just before sundown to about 15-20 minutes after. or an hour before that, find an area in open shade where the sun is blocked by a hill (lucky for photogs with 1%rs clients is that they tend to live in areas with just that sort of evening sun) but river beds tend to also have this with trees lining the banks, though creeks are best with just trickling water and lots of boulders to pose on. look for an area where there is gap in the trees on one side so you have a wide arc of soft semi directional light.
