Regarding your IM, I think we would see a situation similar to what happened in Tennessee when my namesake tried to become State House Majority Leader. The democrats worked with a pair of republicans to broker a deal for another person to serve in that role.
A far right nominee for Speaker would probably lead to a similar turn of events.
